The following are descriptions of locations in the panoramic image.
Location 1 - Closed circuit TV monitor
Continuous two-way video conferencing keeps the astronomers at the facility in direct communication with other scientists and engineers at Keck Observation Headquarters, located in Waimea, Hawaii.
Location 2 - Sound-dampening material
Sound dampening material on the walls reduces noise generated by the electrical equipment housed in the Control Room.
Location 3 - Snacks
Location 4 - Computer racks
These racks house computers and other circuitry that control the instrument, including the motors that point the mirrors. This equipment also controls the delay line carts and other instruments that align and detect combined starlight.
Location 5 - Clean room smocks
Worn by technicians as they enter the dust-sensitive areas adjacent to the control room, such as the combining lab and delay line areas.
