GUIDE TO THE GALAXY
Introduction

Guide to the Galaxy

The Milky Way galaxy is a rotating disc-shaped gathering of stars, gas and dust about 100,000 light-years across and 2500 light-years thick. Our sun, located along one of the Milky Way's spiral arms, is one of at least 200 billion stars contained in this galaxy. The Milky Way itself is just one of hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe.
